The Loopfour Reconciliation Break Report 2026

What actually breaks when finance teams reconcile — counted from 108 real, publicly posted forum threads where someone described a reconciliation that wouldn't tie, read and categorized one at a time. Collected 2026-09-10. Full method and the raw dataset are both below.

What breaks most often, across all 108 threads

One category per thread, assigned after reading the full set (see method).

Failure modeThreads
Payment-processor payout doesn't tie to the bank deposit
18
CRM-to-ERP record sync failure (Salesforce ↔ NetSuite)
14
Subledger-to-GL or trial-balance mismatch
14
Beginning/opening balance wrong or locked
13
Intercompany elimination or FX translation imbalance
13
Payment or credit applied to the wrong invoice/customer
12
Inventory subledger vs. GL/valuation mismatch
7
Bank-feed auto-match or auto-categorization failure
5
Third-party AP/AR connector sync failure (Bill.com, etc.)
5
Duplicate transactions from a bank-feed re-sync
4
Reconciliation undo/redo tooling friction

By system pair

Pairs with 2 or more threads. System names are grouped by product family (all QuickBooks editions counted together, for example) — the full, ungrouped detail is in the CSV.

Method

Every row started as a real, publicly posted forum thread where a person described a reconciliation, sync, or close problem in their own words. Each candidate thread was fetched and read individually before being included — none were added from a search-result title alone. 108 threads survived that check and are in this dataset, collected in a single pass on 2026-09-10.

Platforms actually used: QuickBooks Community accounts for the largest share (62 of 108 threads), followed by Proformative, the Celigo Connective Community, and a longer tail of vendor and ERP-specific forums (Dynamics/mibuso.com, Salesforce Trailblazer, Manager Forum, Zoho Books, Sage, Xero, Square). Reddit could not be used at all — every r/Accounting, r/QuickBooks, r/Netsuite, r/Bookkeeping, and r/Controller thread we tried to fetch was blocked at the network level, and search never surfaced a fetchable Reddit permalink. NetSuite's own community (community.oracle.com/netsuite) and Bill.com's community both returned real, on-topic threads in search but timed out or sat behind a login wall on every fetch attempt, so none of those are included either — the gap is a tooling access limit, not a claim that NetSuite or Bill.com break less often.

Categorizing: we read the first ~50 threads before assigning any category, wrote down the failure modes actually present, then froze that list of 11 categories and coded all 108 threads against it. System pairs were normalized to product families (e.g. every QuickBooks edition grouped as "QuickBooks") for the pair table above; the CSV keeps the original, ungrouped system names per thread.

The honest limitation: this is not a random sample. People post on forums when something breaks, not in proportion to how often it breaks versus works — so these counts describe the shape of reported failures, not a failure rate. The heavy QuickBooks Community share also reflects which forums were actually reachable and readable during this research pass, not that QuickBooks fails more than NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Dynamics — several of those forums had real, relevant threads we could see in search but could not fetch. 108 threads is also short of the 300+ this report originally targeted, for the same reachability reasons; we're publishing the honest 108 rather than padding toward a bigger number, and will extend this dataset in a future pass rather than promise a date for it.
