How do I undo a bank reconciliation in QuickBooks Online?
As the primary admin, go to Reconcile, select History by account, find the reconciliation to undo, and choose Undo from that period's Action menu. This permanently deletes the reconciliation's reports and attachments, so download anything you need first — the action can't be reversed.

| Who can do this | The primary admin (or an Accountant user via the client dashboard) |

| Where | Reconcile > History by account > Action menu > Undo |
| Irreversible? | Yes — reports and attachments for that reconciliation are permanently deleted |
| Before undoing | Download any reconciliation reports or attachments you need to keep |
Undoing an entire reconciliation period
Sign in as the primary admin, go to Accounting then Reconcile, and select History by account. Locate the reconciliation period you need to undo, open its Action menu, and select Undo. QuickBooks shows a warning before confirming, because this permanently deletes the reports and attachments tied to that reconciliation — there's no way to recover them afterward, so export anything needed first.
Unreconciling a single transaction instead
If only one transaction needs to change rather than the whole period, it's usually better to open the account register, find the specific transaction, and change its status from reconciled (R) to uncleared, rather than undoing the entire period's reconciliation and redoing all of it.

What causes a bank reconciliation to not balance?
In order of likelihood: a transaction was entered twice or not at all, an amount was transposed or mistyped, a bank fee or interest payment was never booked, a deposit in transit or outstanding check wasn't accounted for, or the beginning balance itself was wrong because a prior period's reconciliation was never actually correct.

Adjust both balances for these timing items until the adjusted bank balance equals the adjusted book balance.
